Job Description

Job Summary:

The Infusion Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving intravenous and injectable therapies such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, and blood products. This role involves monitoring patient reactions, ensuring safe medication administration, educating patients and families, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive infusion treatment and support.

Responsibilities:

• Assess patient condition before, during, and after infusion treatments.
• Review medical history, laboratory results, and treatment orders for accuracy.
• Monitor vital signs and patient responses throughout treatment.
• Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other IV and injectable medications safely.
• Access and manage vascular devices including ports, PICC lines, and central lines.
• Follow strict protocols for hazardous drug handling and chemotherapy safety.
• Calculate accurate dosages and infusion rates.
• Detect and respond to adverse reactions or complications such as allergic reactions or extravasation.
• Provide emergency interventions as necessary.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effects, symptom management, and infection prevention.
• Offer emotional support to patients throughout the therapy process.
• Collaborate with providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
• Communicate patient status changes to providers promptly.
• Document treatment administration, patient responses, and side effects accurately in electronic medical records.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license (Compact license holders must obtain WI license within 90 days).
• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred).
• BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire.
• ACLS certification required or obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Current ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card or obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of IV therapy and vascular access management.
• Experience with chemotherapy safety and hazardous drug handling.
• Strong critical thinking and rapid response skills.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Experience in oncology or infusion nursing.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record documentation.

Special Considerations:

• Must adhere to strict chemotherapy and hazardous drug handling protocols.
• Ability to respond quickly to infusion-related emergencies.
• Emotional resilience to support patients undergoing complex therapies.
• Compliance with all clinic policies and regulatory standards.

Scheduling:

• Full-time day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
